Little Sur River Backpacking July 2007

Becky and I did a nice weekend backpacking trip up the Little Sur River drainage with Greg & Jana, starting from Bottcher's Gap down to Pico Blanco Boy Scout Camp then up the river to a couple of unnamed campsites. Further on there were some good swimming holes and river hiking.

Hiking down the access road to the Pico Blanco camp, above the Little Sur river drainage. Nice and warm- it'll be good to get into the redwoods.Or the pines...Here's the valley- we drop down to the river then hike up the watershed. The Little Sur is designated as a Wild and Scenic River; it still has good runs of steelhead. We saw one in a pool.


We got to the camp without seeing another person. Big Sur...


Then headed upriver to find the rumored swimming hole.


Cooold water. Back to camp for a fire and some dinner.

Hike out the next day. Stop at the boy scout camp, which has a large lake with a dock and some picnic tables for a swim, lunch, and some rest.

Who knew you could soak couscous in cold water and it would soften up?

All in all a good quick overnighter.
